Our clients have spoken often of Devoted Canine’s life-changing effect on their relationship with their dog.

For an extended look at one of our client’s cases, meet Ivy below.

"Diana can work with any dog with any background. We reached out to Diana with some questions/apprehension about our dog's reactivity with the hope that our dog would be able to eventually make friends. Within a few weeks, our dog had made her first friend (Diana's wonderful dog, Arya!) and was able to attend a group class with great success. For our situation, Diana has worked with us on everything from basic obedience, to reactivity, to loose leash walking. We are so grateful and we are SO excited to keep working with Diana. "

"I just want to say if you're looking for a reliable trainer who’s going to work with you and your family schedule and ensure the best quality training for your dog get with my girl !! Haze started school without knowing how to stop pulling while walking him and he was far from having the knowledge of walking down the street without his leash. We liked her services so much we will be using her again for our new puppy! Thank you again Devoted Canine Training!!"

A Devoted Canine Case study: Ivy

Meet Ivy.

Ivy is a hound mix (coon hound + black lab) adopted in early 2021 by a young couple living in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia. Ivy originally came from South Carolina (a southern belle!) and was found wandering on the side of the road last fall. She is a super sweet gal who loves to introduce herself to any and all humans she comes across, and who will chase soccer balls endlessly in Fairmount Park.

Ivy is a very sweet dog, but struggled with reactivity to other dogs when she was first adopted. She was highly curious about other dogs, but was unsure about how to behave around them and in turn became afraid. She would then growl, show her teeth, and bark at other dogs. It made walking around the neighborhood a challenge, as the owners would need to cross the street with Ivy to avoid passing dogs.

Ivy’s reactivity was on full display during the first session with Diana and Arya from Devoted Canine:

Diana devised a basic obedience program with the owners to counter-condition the reactivity while developing Ivy’s confidence and behaviors in all sorts of situations. Through a combination of dedicated practice and repetition of basic skills, Ivy grew more comfortable around other dogs. Ivy also attended DCT group classes to improve in a more hectic environment. More dogs = more distractions = better practice!

Ivy eventually graduated from Basic Obedience and moved on to Advanced Obedience, where she practiced off-leash walking around the neighborhood, and going with her owners to restaurants, stores, and coffee shops in Philadelphia. Her owners now live a much happier and more comfortable life with Ivy, knowing that she will respond to them even in unknown situations. Best of all, Ivy now enjoys daily play sessions with the dogs in the neighborhood, and can happily great another dog while out on a walk. In an 8-month period, Ivy completely transformed from a reactive, fearful dog, to a happy and sweet girl who’s living her best life.

A Devoted Canine Case study: Bentley

Meet Bentley

Bentley is a young bull breed mix from a local shelter in Philadelphia. While he was in the shelter he did not display any doggy activity but upon leaving the shelter, He displayed very severe dog reactivity. We were working for serval months not only building up his obedience but building up his socialization skills with other dogs.

When Bentley is showcasing his reactivity it can be vocalizations or even all the way up to severe leash biting. He has nailed/nipped his handler due to his dog reactivity. After building up his obedience skill, We slowly added more and more dog distractions until Bentley was more comfortable and behaving correctly around dogs.
